Talk of the town: Night move proves Rory is all there

IMPRESSIONIST and comedian Rory Bremner has been so concerned about his Strictly Come Dancing routines he is rehearsing in the middle of the night.

The Edinburgh-born celebrity, who recently revealed he suffered from attention deficit and hyperactive disorder, has lost half a stone since participating in the popular BBC show.

The 50-year-old said: “I woke up in a muck-sweat, panicking that someone had broken into my head and taken out the file marked ‘choreography’.

“I got up, plugged my iPod in and danced around the bedroom, bouncing off the furniture.”

The lavish cocktail party always attracts a big turnout. So, congratulations to the company for becoming only the second organisation so far this year to drop an invitation to a Christmas drinks event into the Evening News postbag.

Usually, you would think that an invite sent out in mid-October would be the first – but that goes to Friends of the Earth, who had announced the date of their bash only days after last year’s event.

Colourful language

RESIDENTS here have no love for the trams – and they haven’t even been built yet.

It seems this condition of tram-hating is not new. It seems a Scottish colourist complained of Edinburgh’s “infernal trams”. The difference is, Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell was venting his spleen in the early 20th century.

His rant, which echoes that of many people in the Capital today, emerged as letters he wrote were made public.

Some kind of royalty

IT is known to be one of the most haunted locations in the Capital – and now it seems Mary King’s Close has made it into the international elite of spooky attractions.

Ahead of Hallowe’en, a travel website listed the seven scary wonders of the world, putting the historic haunted underground passageways of Edinburgh in the same league as Salem, Massachusetts – home of the Salem Witch trials – the catacombs beneath Rome, the London hunting ground of Jack the Ripper and, Winchester House, a mansion in California which was repeatedly extended by an heiress to ward off the ghosts of those killed by Winchester rifles.

Exalted company indeed.
