Talk of the Town: Mirror, mirror . . where’s the TV?

FOR the city’s boutique hotels, there is a lot at stake in making sure they have the most sophisticated, sleek designs.

It seems one city establishment may have gone a little too far, however, after being inundated with complaints from residents asking where the TV is.

The Murrayfield House hotel had hoped to make the best use of space by disguising its flatscreen TVs behind dressing table mirrors, but instead were left answering questions from baffled guests.

Hotel sales manager Craig Brodie said: “Guests are promised the room is equipped with a smart flatscreen television so when they can’t find a TV some of them get quite miffed.”

Our council insider said: “I don’t know what’s happened to the original bust in the Members Lounge of the City Chambers, but this is an improvement.”

Rankin mystery is no page turner

HE’S the Capital’s King of Crime, but Rebus author Ian Rankin has admitted he would happily give away the mystery of “whodunnit” on the first page.

The author said in an interview that the “game between author and reader” is the part of the writing which he finds least interesting.

So after a peek at his latest work, Talk of the Town can exclusively reveal that it was the butler.
