The Scotsman cartoon: Independence currency plans
Scottish Secretary, Alistair Carmichael said the white paper on Scottish independence, due out on 26 November, must set out a “credible Plan B” on the currency for an independent Scotland.
First Minister Alex Salmond has said Scotland would use the pound in a “sterling union” with the rest of the UK after independence but yesterday Colin McKay, head of the SNP government’s strategy unit, said the forthcoming white paper on independence would be able to set out the scheme only as the “best option” the country would have.
