Lynne McCrossan: Don’t be left between a frock and a hard place

INSIDE a charity shop in Gorgie Road, a once much-loved frock is on display, hooked on a plastic hanger, waiting for a new owner.

It has been worn a handful of times, but is still way too young to be dubbed vintage, meaning it is currently stuck in fashion limbo.

The previous owner dropped it off a few weeks back to make way for fresh frocks now that Christmas is here.

Her thoughts for the clear-out were New Year, New You. So out went the old jewelled piece of tulle to make way for the current clothing trend.

This is happening all over the city. Last season’s party pieces are being pushed aside for pricier high street offerings.

But I think these ladies might be missing a trick. You see, if you delve into a bit of charity shop frock hopping you will be removing the possibility of living out your worst nightmare on the dance floor – meeting your dress doppelgänger in town.

Plus, you’ll be doing a good deed by giving money to charity this Christmas time, and you’ll be paying a fraction of the cost for your clothing. Win, win if you ask me.

But remember girls, a frock’s for life, not just for Christmas.
