We wander around the Capital complaining about the council while stuck behind the never-ending nightmare that is tram works.

Quite right too, last week it took me the best part of an hour to get from the Gyle to the Grassmarket, grrrr!

But because we never stop to smell the proverbial roses we’re missing the best detox for council rage – the view.

Let’s face it, you’re already late so why not go with the flow and enjoy the scenery?

Take your pick from modern, Georgian, Victorian and even medieval masterpieces. We live in one of the most stylish cities in the world, so soak it up.

I found myself foaming at the mouth during said cross-town traffic jam, with a plethora of grumpy pusses detected behind each driver’s seat I crawled past.

But as I took a deep breath to try to relieve the hyper traffic tension and glanced around I saw things for the first time even though I’ve lived here over a decade.

It was as if the view was acting as a beta blocker easing blood pressure with every building I passed.

There were plaques to read, statues to stare at and brickwork to take your breath away.

I felt like a tourist in my own city.

We can’t beat it, so we might as well try and enjoy it.
