Lynne McCrossan: Capital is a gift to Christmas

A SEA of sequins swims on our high street signalling to all . . . ‘tis the season to be stylish.

The glühwein is graciously being gulped in the Gardens under the flashing lights of the big wheel, and for the first time this winter it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

This past week I’ve watched our city being transformed into a winter wonderland.

Those evil tram barricades have been banished and the beauty of Princes Street is once again on display.

And as each tree is decorated, I’m reminded of how magic our wee city really is.

I know everyone thinks the place they call home is the best, but I defy anyone to deny that Edinburgh is the most beautiful city in the world this time of year.

I’ve done a little leg work on this. Paris and Prague are pretty, and New York knows how to celebrate the holidays but Edinburgh glows this time of year.

There’s a warmth in the city while the temperature plummets. Winter coats are accessorised well with scarves, hats and knee high boots.

There’s a tonne of pop-up stands to peek at or sit in, perfect for style spotting over some spiced mulled wine. Christmas in Edinburgh is truly divine.
