Leader: Wha’s like us… Colin and Chris Weir

WHEN Colin and Chris Weir became Scotland’s biggest lottery winners, they vowed not to move too far from their home town of Largs. Last week the couple, who won £161 million on EuroMillions in July, remained true to their word when they bought a mansion just two miles down the road.

Knock House, with its own cinema, swimming pool and stables, is set in 23 acres of land and boasts stunning views towards the Firth of Clyde.

It is a world away from the Weirs’ modest three-bedroom home in Largs, where they brought up their two children, Carly and Jamie. But the £850,000 luxury residence is close enough for the couple to keep up with friends and neighbours in the town, as well as enjoy a meal in their favourite fish and chip shop, Ginos Fryer.

“Colin and Chris have never made any secret of the fact that they would not move away,” said a family friend. “Some people have asked why they aren’t going to the south of France or Australia. But there’s no place like home.”
