Karen Koren: Upsy Daisy, don’t miss night garden

I REALLY don’t know how these morning television presenters manage to get up at some unearthly hour every day to present the news.

It takes me all my time to get up in order to catch an early flight. They, on the other hand, have to get up at three in the morning and look presentable on a daily basis. I realise, of course, that it is their job, and that they will be very used to it, but it’s something I could never get used to.

Monday morning saw me attempting to get to the airport for an early flight to London, hampered by the fact that I had attended the wedding of my nephew Steven to his lovely fiancé Gillian on Sunday.

The celebration took place at the Botanics, a lovely venue for a wedding, even though the weather is not always kind. I had not realised the Botanics closes to the public when the weather is bad, so we had the whole park to ourselves.

The happy couple had hoped to get married in the open air and enjoy the lush surroundings. No such luck. The wind and rain put paid to any hope of photos being taken in the rockery.

It did not hamper the day, however, the whole gathering filled with love and joy as family and friends enjoyed the proceedings thoroughly.

I had never thought of the Botanics as a wedding venue but would not hesitate to recommend it highly.

Which brings me to the fact that the gardens are going to open at night from Thursday for Night In The Garden – a light show throughout the Botanics.

The beautiful Victorian Palm House will be lit up along with other installations - well worth seeing - and a finale each evening, on the lawn in front of Inverleith House, will over-look the magnificent Edinburgh skyline. I will definitely be going to experience this new and unique event.
