Gary Flockhart: You’ll have had your T Break then?

THERE is no exact science for forecasting the stars of the future, but T in the Park has an uncanny knack for making the search for fresh, unsigned talent look easy.

Former participants on the festival’s T Break stage include Travis, Biffy Clyro and Paolo Nutini - all of whom have gone on to sell millions of albums worldwide.

T in the Park’s hunt for talent is on again with the launch of T Break 2012, with Tennent’s offering 16 of the best unsigned acts in Scotland the chance to kick start their career and land a coveted slot at this year’s big event in Balado.

Bands and solo artists can now submit their demos of original music - in any genre - to be in with a chance of playing T Break and sharing the T in the Park bill alongside the likes of The Stone Roses, Jessie J and Kasabian.

Last year, Discoplolis took the T Break Stage by storm, and Edinburgh’s brilliant young electro trio clearly benefitted hugely from the exposure. Frontman Fergus Cook says, “Initiatives like T Break create opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t be available and we’re very grateful to have been given them.”

Biffy Clyro, the biggest Scottish band of the moment, echo these sentiments. “T in the Park plays an important role in the development of the Scottish music scene with the T Break stage,” says singer Simon Neil. “We know through experience how important that is.”
