SIR Andrew Murray, Lord Provost of Edinburgh, in a letter to Sir Norman Duke, chairman of the South-East Scotland Electricity Board, expressed concern at electricity cuts which are being made from time to time each day in Edinburgh.

He has been asked by the Town Council to see Sir Norman on the matter, and has indicated the kind of questions which “we think ought to be cleared up”. “We should like to know the maximum demand at Portobello station for purely Edinburgh purposes, and compare this with the maximum potential output of the station. We should like to have corresponding figures for the South-East area, and for Scotland. It is hard to believe that, having regard to the increased Scottish potential of the post-war years, there should be cuts of the extent which is deemed necessary and it is obvious to us now that with the reintroduction of a five-day week, these cuts will be extended into
Saturdays.”
