From the Archive: ‘Scottish National Assembly’

ON SATURDAY, the fourth meeting of the Scottish National Assembly will be held in Edinburgh, when the next steps in the Covenant campaign will be discussed by over 1,000 delegates from all parts of Scotland. The occasion is regarded by its sponsors as the most important demonstration of public support for Scottish self-government yet staged. Widespread interest in the Assembly has been shown even beyond the borders of Scotland. Delegates from the New Wales Union, which is to launch a campaign for Welsh selfgovernment, will attend the Assembly. Observers are likely to be present both from Northern Ireland and from Eire and a representative of the United States Consular Service has arranged to be there in order that his government may be informed of the nature and strength of the movement. A number of Scottish societies in England will send delegates.
