David Cameron lobbying scandal leaves Scottish Tories silent after months of manufactured outrage about Nicola Sturgeon – Angus Robertson

The scandal about David Cameron and his lobbying of former government colleagues is becoming bigger by the day.

A series of media revelations has exposed the activities of the ex-Tory Prime Minister as he lobbied on behalf of the failed finance company Greenshill.

For nearly a month, Cameron ignored all media requests to explain his actions. Not any more after others confirmed that he had spent months lobbying for Greenshill, including sending texts to the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, further government ministers and senior officials at 10 Downing Street and the Treasury.

Cameron also arranged a private drink between the English Health Secretary Matt Hancock and Greenshill founder Lex Greenshill. Now that Cameron has been exposed, he has accepted that he should acted differently and used only “the most formal channels”.

Boris Johnson reportedly believes he is not under pressure to force ministers to account publicly for their meetings. That will not stand serious scrutiny and the questions are just beginning.

Perhaps that is why Cameron has now released a 1,700-word statement, which includes confirmation that he had also met Mohammed bin Salman since the Saudi Crown Prince was implicated in the murder of outspoken journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Having endured months of manufactured opposition outrage in the Scottish Parliament aimed at taking out Nicola Sturgeon, the silence of the Scottish Tories about their UK Westminster colleagues is deafening.

Whether it is multi-million pound PPE contracts for Tory donors or a former Conservative Prime Minister lobbying his pals behind the scenes, is there nothing at all they find problematic?
