Having began my career with the former Central Scotland Police I worked in a variety of roles including uniform, CID, Major Crime Team, Training and Offender Management. In addition to these roles I was also Staff Officer to Deputy Chief Constable Neil Richardson and worked with the Scottish Government during the Police Reform Programme which assisted in the delivery of Police Scotland.
I was also seconded to the former Lothian and Borders Police Major Crime Team during the Vicky Hamilton enquiry and over the past 18 months I have worked in various stations across the Capital, as an Inspector in Response Policing.
Now that I am in post, my policing teams and I are preparing a number of operations and events to engage with the local communities and ensure we take a proactive approach to meeting the specific needs of the public. Local officers are already in the process of targeting warrant offenders within the west of the city. We have identified a number of individuals who are subject of outstanding warrants and who can expect a visit from police. I would strongly advise anyone who believes they may be in this position to come forward immediately.
Part of Police Scotland’s commitment to communities is to promote crime prevention and we will soon look to offer a property marking service to the public, which helps identify stolen goods and ensure they are returned to their rightful owners should they be lost or stolen.
In addition, we are currently in the planning process with relevant partner agencies to host a special “blue-light disco” for the young people within our communities. The under-18 event has been used to good effect in other areas of the Capital and provides police with an excellent opportunity to meet local youths and provide them with a safe environment where they can socialise with friends.
I am delighted to have been appointed to the role. I have personally been on patrols with my officers allowing me to meet members of the community and enhance my understanding of existing issues. I look forward to working with partners and the public with a view to keeping people safe and enhancing quality of life in the area.
