Can we all escape to this Scottish paradise island? – Scotsman comment

The island of Ulva is looking for people to take over The Boathouse cafe. They may get more interest than they expect.

We recently suggested that those with a most severe case of Brexit blues might wish to relocate to Venus where, despite its inhospitable (and decidedly lethal) atmosphere, possible evidence of life has been detected.

This was a satirical rather than a practical suggestion, but the opportunity to take over the running of The Boathouse cafe and restaurant on the island of Ulva, just off Mull, will surely appeal to many.

“A hidden gem, nestled in the crook of neighbouring Mull’s embrace, Ulva is an island paradise for wildlife, scenery and escape,” says Visitmullandiona.co.uk.

Previous visitors to Ulva include James Boswell and Samuel Johnson, Walter Scott and Beatrix Potter, while the current inhabitants consist of six resident humans – a population boosted by around 7,000 visitors a year in normal times – along with white-tailed sea eagles, golden eagles, hen harriers, otters and seals.

The ‘things to do’ section of community-owned Ulva’s website has three headings: wildlife, history and beauty. Sounds just wonderful – and so much nicer than Venus.
