Open day for truck plant staff

ORGANISERS of a project aimed at telling the story of the Bathgate truck and tractor plant workers are holding an open day in the town.

At one time the plant, which closed 24 years ago, employed 7000 workers.

The open day will take place at the Regal Community Theatre on October 9.

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the plant and the 25th anniversary of its closure.

Elizabeth Bryan, area tutor organiser with Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders Area Workers' Educational Association, said: "At this stage we are trying to let as many people and organisations know about the project and encourage former workers and those interested in researching the history of the plant, or who have other information to share, to come to our open day."

The open day will be held from 10am to 12.30pm.
