One Edinburgh victim included among 200 Jimmy Savile crimes
THE ordeal of an Edinburgh woman targeted by disgraced telly pervert Jimmy Savile is among more than 200 crimes documented in a new report.
The 30-page document lays bare the full scale of the fiend’s warped double life and details a victim who reported an incident from the 1970s to Lothian and Borders Police.

Hide AdHer story forms part of yesterday’s damning report which police said painted a “compelling picture of widespread sexual abuse by a predatory sex offender”, while another senior officer added that Savile had “groomed the nation”.
The complaint was one of two received by the force from women who came forward last year after details of Savile’s offending came to light. The second case involved an unrelated woman, now living in Edinburgh, who endured a sexual assault at the hands of Savile in Newcastle.
Both of the incidents took place in the 1970s, when Savile was at the height of his fame – and were exclusively revealed by the Evening News in October.
Officers in Edinburgh passed full statements from both women to colleagues in the Metropolitan Police leading the inquiry.
The Giving Victims a Voice report, covering 50 years of allegations against Savile, set out the findings of Operation Yewtree, which launched three months ago to investigate the Savile abuse claims.
The report revealed that children as young as eight were abused by Savile while offences took place at 13 hospitals and 34 crimes involved rape or penetration. The report details over 200 incidents.
Assistant Chief Constable Graham Sinclair, the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (Acpos) lead for public protection, said: “Currently, most of the matters reported in Scotland in fact pertained to events which took place outwith Scotland. These reports were forwarded to Operation Yewtree.
“To date, five disclosures have been made across the UK which relate to crimes which are alleged to have taken place in Scotland, one in each of the areas policed by Fife Constabulary, Grampian Police, Lothian and Borders Police, Northern Constabulary and Strathclyde Police.
“All of these are being investigated by Scottish police and liaison with the Crown will continue to ensure that these investigations are properly managed and concluded.”
