One dead and two injured as cars collide
A third man also sustained serious injuries in the crash, which took place near Penicuik, Midlothian, at about 11.45pm on Friday.
Two cars were involved: a Vauxhall Corsa which was travelling north and a Mitsubishi L200 Warrior which was travelling south.
The passenger of the Corsa, a 20-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver is currently in a very serious condition at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
The passenger of the Mitsubishi also sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
The incident occurred on the A701 about 500 metres south of the Gowkley Moss roundabout, near Penicuik. The road was closed for four hours to allow a full accident investigation. The identity of the dead man will not be released until next of kin have been notified.
