Olympic torch set to blaze a trail through West Lothian

THE Olympic torch will visit West Lothian on its tour of Scotland next year.

The torch will visit Hopetoun House and Broxburn on June 13 as part of its journey around the UK.

The local authority welcomed the news that the iconic torch would be visiting the area, saying it would be a boost for residents and businesses.

The visit to West Lothian is on the section of the route that has been announced between St Andrews and Edinburgh.

West Lothian’s Provost Tom Kerr said: “We are delighted that the Olympic torch will visit West Lothian on its journey around the UK. I’m sure that there will be more details about the precise timings and exact routes nearer the time.”

The torch will also pass through Edinburgh and series of towns and villages throughout Scotland and the UK.

Last month members of the public were offered the chance to pose with the Olympic torch in Edinburgh.

Organisers came to the Capital as part of the nationwide search to find students to participate in the 2012 London Olympic torch relay.

The torch previously appeared in the city as part of a tour in June.
