Olympic producer gets on his marks

THE man who produced the opening and closing ceremonies at the Athens Olympic Games is to speak to staff, students and members of the public at Queen Margaret University.

William Morton will be interviewed by four students about his company, Jack Morton Worldwide, and look back on a career which has included producing events for the Manchester and Melbourne Commonwealth Games, as well as Winter and Summer Olympic opening ceremonies.

Professor Joe Goldblatt, director of the university's International Centre for the Study of Planned Events, said: "This is an exceptional opportunity for people to hear from one of the most talented and respected people in the international event arena.

"The university is keen to involve local people in many of its unique events and we are therefore delighted to extend a warm welcome to residents from Edinburgh and the Lothians to join us."

Mr Morton aims to highlight some pointers which will inspire students to take on event planning, design and management.

Places are free but advanced booking is essential on [email protected] or 0131-474 0000. The talk begins at 1:30pm on 17 May.
