Old Brits getting ready to let rip in Ramsey

A COUPLE of thrill-seeking pensioners have sold their croft and piled their life savings into a high performance 600c superbike with sidecar to compete in TT races.

Robin Daykin, 74, and wife Annette, 62, will soon be tearing round the track with riders more than half their age on the gruelling Formula 2 circuit in next month’s Isle of Man races.

The couple, from Turriff, Aberdeenshire, sold their croft eight years ago and plunged into their life savings to pay for a new thrill. Instead of making use of a free bus pass, Mr Daykin convinced his wife that they should invest in an iconic Royal Enfield motorbike and sidecar to take part in high-speed races.

Mrs Daykin said the decision came after the couple’s three children had grown up. After taking retirement, they decided to revive their passion for bikes

She said: “Neither of us wanted a quiet life. This is our time to go out and have fun.”

They have competed under the banner of Team Past It since a young competitor told Mr Daykin he was too slow.
