Oil and gas training centre opens

A TRAINING centre for Britain’s oil and gas industry has been officially opened in Aberdeen by Malcolm Webb, chief executive of trade body Oil and Gas UK.

The ASET International Oil and Gas Training Academy, originally established in 1993, has been relocated to Aberdeen College’s Altens Centre.

ASET has been delivering oil and gas related and marine training in Aberdeen to operators and contractors in the UK Continental Shelf and other oil provinces for almost 20 years.

The new facilities include exact replicas of offshore installation control rooms and a floating production, storage and offload (FPSO) simulator.

Principal Rob Wallen said: “By upgrading the facilities we will continue to underpin the training needs of the North Sea industry, fulfil global demand for specialist training and reaffirm Aberdeen as a market leader.”

Mr Webb said: “With up to 24 billion barrels of oil and gas still to be extracted from the UK continental shelf and far more from other oil and gas provinces around the world, the demand for highly skilled people is here to stay.

“The investment made by ASET will help ensure the UK can continue to respond to that need.”
