Officials accused of cigarette smuggling

Romania detained 60 customs officials and border police for alleged involvement in cigarette smuggling from Serbia, prosecutors said yesterday.

The officials, working at four western border crossings, allegedly took €1 (85p) bribes for every carton of cigarettes, making up to €2,700 a shift.
