Officers get on their bikes

POLICE in the Lothians are set to use pedal power to clamp down on antisocial behaviour after officers were issued with six new bikes to carry out patrols.

The cycles were purchased with a grant from community councils in Haddington, Dunbar and North Berwick.

The bikes will be used by community beat officers to patrol areas in East Lothian that are not easily accessible by patrol car.

A police spokesman said: "As well as being an environmentally friendly and a healthy way to get around, the bikes will allow us to reach areas where antisocial behaviour is an issue."
