Officer raises £10k on cycle

AN assistant chief constable has completed a gruelling five-day cycle ride from London to Edinburgh to raise funds for a charity that provides support for children with emotional and behavioural problems in Lothian schools.

Bill Skelly, who returned to Lothian and Borders Police in May after serving as Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary for Scotland, helped to raise 10,000 for The Place2Be charity.

Six colleagues from London joined him for the 466-mile cycle, setting off from Alexandra Palace last Wednesday and arriving in the Capital on Sunday.

ACC Skelly said: "I was very keen to support ThePlace2Be as they deal with young people at a very important stage in their lives, intervening before they come into contact with the police."
