Occupy protesters in fight vow after Meadows exit

THE anti-capitalist Occupy Edinburgh camp on the Meadows has officially ended, but campaigners have vowed the fight will go on.

Council bosses went to the Sheriff Court a week ago in a legal action to have supporters of the movement and their tents evicted. Occupy Edinburgh representative William Black had asked for time to obtain legal advice and the case was adjourned.

When it was called yesterday, the solicitor for the council, Fiona Reid, told Sheriff Elizabeth Jarvie QC that the occupiers had removed themselves and their belongings from the Meadows and asked that the action be dismissed.

Mr Black agreed with the motion and Sheriff Jarvie dismissed the case.

Afterwards, Mr Black said: “Removal of the camp does not mean Occupy Edinburgh is away.

“We will now prepare for spring and summer and get our message across by occupying and by other means. The fight goes on.”
