Obua mourns dad's death on derby day

HEARTS star David Obua is mourning the death of his father who died just hours before last weekend's Edinburgh derby.

Obua, 30, only heard news of his father's death when he left the field after bagging the last minute winner in the Tynecastle club's 2-1 victory at Hibs' Easter Road stadium on Saturday.

His father Denis, 63, who was a footballing legend in Uganda, died of a heart attack in Kampala as he was set to take to the pitch for a training session of former internationals at the city's Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium.

Ex-Ugandan star Patrick Ntege was with Denis when he died.

He said: "He kept on touching his chest and complaining but we went on talking about his projects.

"But he then fell on his knees from the chair and collapsed."

He was taken to the BAI Hospital in Old Kampala but was pronounced dead at around 11am – 9am UK time.

A postmortem confirmed that Denis, who was due for a heart check up, died of cardiac arrest.
