OAP hurt in kitchen fire

A MAN had to be rescued by firefighters after a pan of food caught fire in his kitchen.

The 91-year-old, who lives in Haddington, on Monkmains Road, refused to go to hospital but was treated at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Neighbours were alerted of the fire at 11.20pm when the smoke alarm went off and they could smell burning. The elderly man suffered from smoke inhalation but the extent of damage to his house is unknown.

Three fire crews attended the incident, two from Haddington and one from East Linton.
