OAP flu jab figures soar

THE number of Lothians pensioners vaccinated against flu has exceeded World Health Organisation targets, doctors have said.

More than 75 per cent of over-65s received a jab, with experts saying the move could have saved hundreds of lives as the number of people inoculated surpassed 2009 levels.

Dr Andrew Buist, joint deputy chairman of the British Medical Association's Scottish GP committee, said: "Despite horrendous weather conditions, these figures are testament to the hard work of the primary health care team."
