OAP escapes house blaze

AN ELDERLY man suffered smoke inhalation after a pan of food caught fire in his Edinburgh home.

Fire crews, equipped with breathing apparatus rushed to the property in Northfield Broadway at around 6pm last night and extinguished the blaze using a hose reel.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was checked at the scene by paramedics and did not require hospital treatment.
