OAP car crash victim dies

A PENSIONER who was seriously injured in a road smash has died in hospital.

Stanley Elliot, of Dean Street in Stockbridge, passed away at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Friday evening.

The 73-year-old was taken to the ERI after the Volkswagen Polo he was driving collided with a blue Mini Cooper that was travelling west on the A71 Edinburgh to Kilmarnock road, half a mile west of Dalmahoy.

The crash happened at around 12.30pm last Wednesday.

The elderly man suffered chest and abdomen injuries and later underwent surgery.

The 20-year-old driver of the Mini was also taken to hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his face and neck.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw the blue Mini on the A71 in the moments prior to the crash to call 0131-311 3131.
