OAP arrested over child abuse claims

A PENSIONER from the
Capital has been arrested in connection with allegations of child sex abuse at a school for vulnerable children.

The 69-year-old was one of four men arrested in connection with alleged abuse at Swaylands School in
Penshurst, Kent.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate (SCD) have been investigating previously unreported alleged abuse at the school between 1967 and 1993.

Some 20 suspected victims have been identified.

The investigation follows an inquiry back in 1993 which resulted in the conviction of two men for six offences each of sexual offences against children.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Fotheringham, of the Kent and Essex SCD, said: “This is a complex inquiry, where we have traced many people and records spanning a number of years.”
