Nurse warns of sun risks

A NURSE who sees the serious side of sunshine on a day-to-day basis has issued a skin cancer warning to Lothians residents.

Sheena Dryden, who works at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for the Macmillan charity, said this was the time of year to think about the risks of exposure.

She said skin cancer cases locally have risen threefold in the past two decades.

"When the weather is getting warmer and we are spending some time outside, it is important we also look after our skin," she said. "At least wear a factor 30 sunscreen and stay out of the midday sun. Cover up with light, tightly woven clothing and a wide-brimmed hat."
