Number of Irish jobless rises

IRELAND'S unemployment rate has risen to 14.3 per cent, underscoring the weakness of its economic recovery.

Dublin's Central Statistics Agency said more than 470,000 people claimed unemployment benefits last month - 12,300 more than in June, when the rate stood at 14.2 per cent. Ireland has the third-worst level of joblessness in the eurozone. The rate in Spain is 21 per cent, Greece 15 per cent.
