Now it's campaigners' turn to party after flats victory

CAMPAIGNERS today claimed victory in their battle for a change in the law to beat the nuisance of party flats.

Residents plagued by noise and disruption from flats let out for stag and hen weekends have been pleading for tougher controls for years.

Now Housing Minister Alex Neil has announced the Scottish Government will amend the Antisocial Behaviour Act to make it easier for councils to take action against the landlords who rent out the flats which cause the problems.

In future, if landlords fail to respond to initial approaches, the council will be able to limiting the number who can be in a party flat at any one time, require some form of on-site supervision - or at least a person who can deal with complaints - or insist on better security.
