A postmortem examination is due to be carried out, but police are currently treating the death as murder.

Detective Inspector Duncan Hamilton said: "It's clear the man sustained a violent attack, but it's not clear when this attack took place.

"We are currently gathering information in the hope of establishing the time of the assault.

"I'm sure the answer lies within the community and that someone may have heard a disturbance at some point, perhaps earlier on in the day or evening. I would urge anyone with information to please get in touch - any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be vital to the inquiry and tracing the person or people responsible for the death of this man."
