No ruling yet on extra cash for schools

NO DECISION has been made on how much money will be given to schools taking on new pupils as a result of a series of school closures, city leaders have said.

The council has pledged that an "additional supplement" will be added to the budgets of those schools taking on pupils from the four closed primary schools; Burdiehouse, Drumbrae, Fort and Royston.

The supplement was to be added "for up to two years after closure".

In response to a question from Labour councillor Ricky Henderson, education leader Marilyne MacLaren said: "No decisions have yet been taken about the amounts of any supplement to be provided to receiving schools.

"The level of additional support required cannot be ascertained until we know how many pupils from closing schools are going to which receiving schools.

"Although some parents may not make their choice until the end of session, we are currently reviewing the current known preferences and we anticipate that this information will allow officers to begin discussions about any additional support needs at the beginning of next term."
