A CITY teacher is holding a wedding-themed party to raise urgently needed funds for a school trip to Ghana.

Julie Smith, 31, a modern studies teacher at Portobello High, said revellers would be asked to wear old wedding dresses and related outfits for the bash at Bainfield bowling club.

She said all proceeds would go towards helping pupils raise £48,000 needed to cover the cost of the trip.

Those taking part will help children in schools and orphanages in the impoverished African country.

Ms Smith said: “I haven’t ever heard of a themed party like this happening in Edinburgh before. I just thought it would be a great idea to have an event where you wear the dress you never thought you would wear again.”
