Nine years for drink-driver

A DRINK-DRIVER who killed two men as they went to the aid of a woman trapped in her car has been jailed for nine years.

Plumber and HGV driver Thomas Irvine, 48, of Paisley, was more than double the legal limit and travelling at "significant" speed when he ploughed into the men on the A737 Linclive Spur road, Renfrewshire, on January 31 last year, the High Court in Edinburgh heard.

Thomas Rarity, 47, of Bathgate, died at the scene, while Anthony Gordon, 39, from Glasgow, died six days later.
