Nine in hospital after acid spill

Nine workers at a landfill site were taken to hospital yesterday after a container of nitric acid overturned.

Ambulances took the nine away from the scene of the spilled ten-litre container, although none of their injuries is said to be life-threatening.

Emergency services were called to the site in Wellwood, Dunfermline, Fife, at mid-day.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We sent two ambulances and a specialist operations team.”

Officers from Fife Constabulary also attended.

A spokeswoman for Fife Fire and Rescue Service said: “We had four appliances and an emergency support unit at the scene.”
