Nigeria swears in new leader

Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in for a full four-year term as president of Nigeria yesterday, and now must unite a country that saw deadly post-election violence despite what observers called the fairest vote in more than a decade.

The ceremony, in Nigeria's capital of Abuja, comes just over a year after Mr Jonathan was sworn into office to complete the term of late President Umar Musa Yar'Adua.

"You have entrusted me with your mandate and I will never, ever, let you down," Mr Jonathan said in his inaugural address.
