Nicola's smart thinking aids disabled

CHILDREN with learning disabilities will see their opportunities improve thanks to the hard of work of a Lothians speech therapist.

Nicola Whitfield, who works with the NHS, hopes to improve the education and potential of youngsters who have a range of conditions, including autism. Her guidance has been rolled out nationally and involves teachers and health workers teaming up to improve the learning process.

Ms Whitfield, who worked with the Scottish Government on the scheme, said: "This guidance is about improving outcomes for children by individualising the support they receive in school by embedding therapy interventions into the curriculum.

"It's a way of combining the best of teaching approaches with the best of therapy."
