NHS health scheme launched

TRAINING Programmes in eating disorders have been launched for all health workers across the area.

NHS Lothian staff are being encouraged to look at taking part in the Eating Disorder Education and Training Scotland scheme.

It is aimed at helping clinicians from a range of fields spot signs in patients that they may be suffering from conditions like anorexia. There is growing concern among health chiefs about rates of eating disorders, particularly among young girls.

It is hoped by training more staff help can be channelled to individuals before it is too late.

Dr Suzanne Deas, a clinical psychologist, said: "We need to ensure our services are delivered by a well-trained multi-disciplinary staff, who can train as teams without having to travel separately to other parts of the UK."
