NHS failing on A&E waits

MORE than 500 accident and emergency patients every month are having to wait more than four hours to be seen by medics, it has been revealed.

Figures released by ISD Scotland showed that NHS Lothian hit the target of seeing 98 per cent of patients within that time frame only once in 2011.

The repeated failure to meet the Scottish Government goal is a source of frustration for health chiefs, but the casualty ward at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary is the busiest in the UK.
