NHS dumps smoker draw

NHS Lothian has abandoned its policy of offering financial incentives to help smokers quit.

Newly released information has shown around 1,500 was spent offering vouchers to smokers in West Lothian last year.

But after assessing the scheme, health bosses decided it had not been a success because it had made no impact on reducing smoking in the area.

The West Lothian Tobacco Issues Group entered anyone who registered with a stop smoking service into a draw where they could win either 500, 100 or 50.
