Man arrested over armed raid on firm

A MAN has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at an insurance company.

The 46-year-old was being held in police custody yesterday after the raid at the Jim Blair Insurance Company in the Shawlands area of Glasgow last Tuesday. Armed police were called to the scene.

The man is expected to appear in court today.

Father of Baby P awarded £75,000

The natural father of Baby P has been awarded £75,000 against the publishers of a national newspaper after being wrongly described as a sex offender, convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl.

Lawyers for the father, referred to as “KC”, said the publishers of the Sunday People were guilty of “one of the gravest libels imaginable”.

Two held over death of man at takeaway

Two men were being held by police last night over the death of a man assaulted outside a takeaway.

John Auld, 59, from Ormiston, East Lothian, was hurt following a disturbance at Kopas takeaway in Tranent at about 5pm on Sunday.

It has been reported he was a delivery driver for the eatery in the High Street.

Ampera wins car of the year award

The Vauxhall Ampera has been named European Car of the Year by motoring journalists from 23 countries.

The Ampera is an electric car with an extended range of 300 miles. The prestigious award, made on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, is one of the most important in Europe.
