Newhaven crowns its own queen

Crowds cheered as the Queen of Newhaven was crowned at the village’s gala day.

The day included stalls and games before 11-year-old Abbie Minto, inset, a P7 pupil at Victoria Primary School, where the ceremony was held, was granted the honour.

The event was revived by headteacher Laura Thomson, who said: “This is the third year since we brought it back. It’s very much about the children, the fishing community and the school.”
