New training scheme is big business

SCHOOL leavers in the Capital could benefit from a new programme designed to help them get into business.

Young Enterprise Scotland has announced the start of the Inspire programme, which offers an intensive learning programme in association with some of the country's most successful entrepreneurs.

The nine month SQA-accredited course, funded by the Scottish Government, will provide 60 places to young people across the central belt.

They will develop their skills and knowledge through a structured work placement, as well as gaining information and practical guidance on market testing and business start-up.

The course will primarily target areas where there are greater numbers of young leavers.

Muriel Jones, project manager at Young Enterprise Scotland, said: "The aim of the Inspire programme is to help develop enterprise skills, an understanding and practical experience of business, and to encourage young people to seriously consider self-employment as a career choice."

The new programme has also been backed by MSP Keith Brown, Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning.
