New training centre is vision of the future

A TRAINING centre for eye specialists costing £500,000 has been officially opened in Edinburgh.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon unveiled the Lothian Optometry Teach and Treat Clinic at Lauriston Building. It is hoped the facility will improve not only the quality of tuition for future optometrists, but also the level of patient care.

NHS Lothian's service manager, Mark Hamilton, said: "NHS Lothian is extremely proud to host the first national optometry training centre in Edinburgh, and of the standard of facility we have been able to create in partnership with National Education for Scotland.

"We are delighted that the cabinet secretary was able to give recognition to the pioneering approach developed by the partnership."
