New shadow cabinet post for city MSP

EDINBURGH North and Leith MSP Malcolm Chisholm has been made Labour's spokesman on education and lifelong learning in Iain Gray's shadow cabinet.

And Lothians MSP Sarah Boyack stays as environment spokeswoman.

The new frontbench team, picked from Labour's depleted ranks of MSPs, sees former justice spokesman Richard Baker moved to finance and deputy leader Johann Lamont take over the justice brief, while Jackie Baillie stays at health, Ken Macintosh takes on culture and external affairs and Lewis Macdonald shadows infrastructure and capital investment.

Mr Chisholm said: "Education and early years is one of the most important areas for the future of Scotland and I'm very pleased to be concentrating on that."

Meanwhile, Livingston SNP MSP Angela Constance has been reappointed as an Education Minister with responsibility for children and young people. Former Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson returns with the environment brief, Michael Matheson is made Health Minister and Aileen Campbell is Local Government Minister.
