New restaurant on the menu for Capital

PLANS to turn a former Bank of Scotland branch into a Nando's restaurant look set to get the go-ahead.

Nando's Chickenland Limited lodged a planning application last year to turn the unit on the corner of Chambers Street and George IV Bridge into a licensed restaurant.

The restaurant will be located on the ground and first floors of the building, with storage space below. Council planning officials have recommended that the proposal gets the go-ahead.

Nando's has been expanding its presence in Scotland and the new restaurant will be its third outlet in the Capital, joining restaurants at Fountainbridge and Lothian Road.

The Bank of Scotland branch became available after the banking giant opened a new branch next to the Missoni hotel on George IV Bridge.

Councillors will make a final decision on whether to approve the proposal at a meeting tomorrow. Planning officials have recommended that they give it the green light.

Consent will only be granted if Nando's agrees to make provision for public transport improvements on George IV Bridge.
